Podcast

Podcast!
1. A podcast is a software or hardware combination that permits download of information for the user to listen to at anytime

2.You have to subscribe or download a program that can be known as a pod catcher(iTunes etc) which can supply downloadable files. You can also have it to where it will notify you when something has changed by subscribing to it. Once you have your podcast downloaded you can open your pod catcher and listen to it at your leasure.

3.Provide audio/video content which can hold your classes attention.
Another way is for professional development. Teachers can download a podcast and listen to it at their leisure. It can also allow you to communicate effectively with parents and community.

4.There's a middle school in Mabury that uses it to add to their audio/video content and in a high school they use it for biology class.

5. I think that podcasts are a great way to think for our students. They are very much so in a technology based generation and that is what interests them! It would be awesome if we could make the classroom more apt to their daily lives and ways so they can be set up to learn and succeed.

1.http://travel.podcast.com
2.I chose this podcast because I love to travel!
3.I thought it was really good! It showed me the places that I chose and I could get a glimpse of if I wanted to travel there or not.

AVL

The Alabama Virtual Library is tool that is very accessible to all. It is basically a library online for every age group specifically being Elementary, Middle & High school, as well as College! It provides many resources to search through including Britannica, EBSCO, and much much more! Most importantly it is free!! How is works is you go to the AVL main website and click on the links that pertain to what you need! It is an awesome source available to teachers because you can create more online stimulation for children being as they are an "online generation"
I think that it is a very useful website with many data bases to search for anything you need, you are guaranteed to find what you are looking for when you search on AVL's website. I love that it has specific tabs for Elementary schools so that I can use it for my classroom in the future. Check it out, for sure!

Mr.Sullivan Presentation

Wow, I never knew how many resources that are available for blind/deaf students. I had never thought that I would get children with specific needs like that. I am very comforted and excited that there are resources available. I learned a lot of how students can still perform tasks that other students with all capabilities can. I loved the computer programs that was shown to us, the speed at which people can hear and understand that recording amazed me!
I think that it is very important for me as an educator to know exactly where and how to operate these important devices such as the computer for the blind. Most of all I think it is very very important to be informed on how to best serve all of your students. Teaching is a service and if we are not aware how to meet every students needs we will be doing them a great disservice.

Google Thinking Blog

I don't agree with most of what the article says about Google and things moving to internet based. I think that there is a difference in reading a text than online but you still will probably always have the choice between the two. I think it is completely ludicrous that people feel like their brains are changing and being altered, I think they are resisting change. I do believe it is important for kids to learn to spell and write other than type and use spell check, I find myself leaning on spell check quite often. I in no way see this as a bad thing. Most universities do things mostly online and so the kids can transfer better between one school and another.

ALEX

ALEX(Alabama Learning Exchange) is a website filled with many resources including lesson plans, distance learning, activities for students, professional development and MUCH more. ALEX is a project that was started and is continued by the Alabama Department of education and is designed to be a "one stop for all" kind of website for parents, teachers, and students. As well as most everything is supplied by the Alabama Courses of Study by National Board Certified Teachers.
I think that this website is phenomenal! It has many resources and ideas available for your students and yourself. I will definitely be using this website when I become a teacher. You are just one or two clicks away from lesson plan ideas, game ideas, and further developing your teaching skills. I definitely want the best for my students and want my classroom to be a place where we can all learn and have fun!

ACCESS

ACCESS stands for Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators, & Students Statewide. It is a wonderful program that allows students the opportunity to advance their knowledge when their schools may not warrant it. ACCESS provides high quality learning from a classroom through internet. These are internet based courses that are done through video and strictly online. You may be able to view these during the lecture or even after! It allows many benefits for the students to get equal education opportunities. All of the teachers are AL certified and all of the courses have to meet the Alabama Course of study and other national standards. The teachers, not only being certified, have to meet other standards like organization is required, preparation, constant interaction and engaging activities to hold the students attention. Other benefits are that it has improved test scores as well as things like lab simulations can be repeated many times. Teachers are also readily available to students who are participating in ACCESS. Teachers can hold real time chats, review sessions with whiteboards online and much more!
I think that ACCESS is a wonderful opportunity to allow students, especially ones in lower funded schools, to be able to take courses that will challenge them and help them in College Prep. All students should be allowed to take any courses they are able to take and I believe that this is the first step. I would definitely recommend checking it out!

Introductory Blog Post

Hi! My name is Brittany Freeman and I am an Elementary Education major in my Junior year. I can't wait to teach and I love spending time with people! I want to teach because I want to reach those kids who aren't loved or valued in other situations. I want them to know they are smart and can do anything that they want to do, they rock!! I like a balance of being indoors and outdoors as well as sports. I am 100 % addicted to coffee! I work with youth at my church and I can't get enough of them! People are my heart and I love spending time with them!
